Book Week at Birrong Girls is primarily focussed on Year 7 and Year 8 .
It is integrated into the Year 7 Information Literacy and Narrative Structure lessons.
Through the year the Year 7 cohort comes to the library via each faculty for lessons.
Each lesson is centred around two narrative performances, workbook exercises that analyse bibliographic records of items chosen by the KLA teachers, and information literacy rubrics.
By the end of Term 2 using Aladdin’s journey in the Stage 4 Geography landscapes’ and landforms topic, as I use the Thousand and One Nights as a core for teaching genres.
At this time I remind year 7 students of the fun they had during Book Week when they were in Year 6.
I distribute the Book Week competition entry forms (see attached) to procure entries across a range of media.
Entries can be for posters, manga, models, book reviews, original stories or performances.
On the last Friday of Book Week I set up the classroom area of the library at lunchtime to announce winners.
After first showing the CBCA winners on the IWB I make a short speech discussing their genres.
